Custom Solutions & Drone Technology
Functions for your drone
For drone manufacturers and integrators – individual functions of our technology that you integrate into your own system.
- Flight control
- Collision avoidance
- Landing site detection
- Loading & unloading
- Onboard AI
You build or operate your own drones and need a specific capability – reliable collision avoidance, precise autonomous landing, automatic loading and unloading or an open flight controller with documented interfaces? Then you do not have to source the whole system from us. Every function of our autonomy technology is available as a stand-alone component and can be integrated into your system.
Every component comes with drivers, an example implementation and documentation – on request also with integration by our team, approval services, training and maintenance.
The functions at a glance
All functions are developed in-house in Würzburg and are in use in our delivery drones, development platforms and the drone port.
EMQ Control flight controller
Our embedded platform with software framework and documented interfaces (USART, I²C, PWM, SPI, USB) – as a stand-alone flight controller or as a co-controller alongside a Pixhawk, including a fallback switch for redundant operation.
Plug & play Obstacle detection & collision avoidance
The flight-assistance modules of the CAA series detect obstacles with ultrasound, infrared, laser or 3D sensors, control the distance and pass their control commands to any flight controller.
Patented Landing site detection
Five laser sensors, four of them pivoting, capture the surroundings in real time with millimetre precision up to approx. 50 m – for precise, autonomous landing even on unknown ground.
Autonomous navigation & mission planning
Autonomous flight from take-off to landing with dual GPS/GNSS, altitude control, telemetry and telecommands – redundantly safeguarded, without a control centre and without cloud connection.
Automatic loading & unloading
The EMQbox transport box and the EMQbot ground robot load and unload the drone without human intervention and charge the batteries – also with drones from other manufacturers, as trialled with the Wingcopter 198.
EMQint interface
The connection to conveyor belts, automation equipment and inventory management – so that drone transport is seamlessly integrated into your existing workflows.
Onboard AI
Onboard computers from the Raspberry Pi to the NVIDIA Jetson with object detection, SLAM (localisation and mapping) and swarm control – evaluation takes place on board, data stays with you.
Hardware made to measure
If no standard component fits, we develop the circuit board, sensor mount or mechanics for your system – from requirement to prototype usually in three to six months.
How integration works
We have already integrated our technology into third-party flight controllers, transport drones and automation systems. The process is always the same.
- Requirements meetingWhich function, which flight controller, which interfaces and which operating scenario?
- Component & documentationHardware and software with drivers, example implementation and interface description.
- IntegrationBy your team with our support – or entirely by us, including tests on your system.
- Approval, training, maintenanceOn request we accompany the approval procedure, train your staff and take over the service.
Frequently asked questions
Fully autonomous delivery drones with redundant control and patented landing site detection, the drone port for intralogistics, and platforms with 3D/4K cameras and LiDAR for inspection and documentation, on request in a private 5G network. Drone manufacturers and integrators can source individual functions of our technology and integrate them into their own systems: the EMQ Control flight controller with software framework and documented interfaces; plug-and-play modules for obstacle detection and collision avoidance using ultrasound, infrared, laser or 3D sensors, which pass their control commands to any flight controller; the patented landing site detection for precise autonomous landing; autonomous navigation and mission planning with redundant safeguards; automatic loading and unloading including battery charging via the EMQbox transport box and the EMQbot robot; the connection to conveyor belts, automation equipment and inventory management via the EMQint interface; and onboard computers with AI functions such as object detection, SLAM and swarm control. Added to this are approval services, training and maintenance. If none of this fits, we develop the system to your requirements – from the circuit board to the mechanics; this is how tailor-made solutions come about, for example in the DNeD research project.
